BREEAM (Building Research Establishment's Environmental Assessment Method) was one of the first international schemes for green buildings to be launched, back in 1990. It was created by BRE, a profit-for-purpose organisation based in the UK. Today, BREEAM is available in more than 80 countries, with 9 local adaptations for specific countries.
